One scam that I was not aware of was one that targets someone in their most vulnerable time, a loved one passes away. A person is grieving and needs time to process a death but also needs to make quick decisions. Unfortunately, sometimes there are unscrupulous funeral directors who will take advantage of someone who is not aware of the costs of a funeral and will push unnecessary services for profit. Try to take a friend with you who is aware of the costs and can guide you through the process. Also, the are scammers who will go online looking at the obituaries and contact their loved ones claiming there is an outstanding debt that needs to be paid. Do not confirm any personal information over the phone and ask them to send something in writing to the executor of the state.
